Basketball Talks: Youth Programs

10 expert with international experiences in several countries debate about the youth players' development

Description

Players’ development is one of the main areas when studying basketball and its training.

Coaches tend to analyze the methods that they use and how to improve them to make them more efficient. Less time, a bigger improvement is the key. Basketball talks and debates theorize about this topic but it seems like there is always some aspect with room for innovation. This is not about the competition but about the training. And, as they say, practice makes perfect.

10 experts in the youth level with wide international experiences in several countries discuss their thoughts and methods in this Basketball Talks Course about the players’ development.

The mechanics and drills that can push your shooting percentages, the concepts that youth programs should implement to create a culture of improvement and the communication during games and practices are the three chosen topics in this debate. The theorics behid their methods, the way that they bring them to the court and how to get the best results out of them.

The coaches that took part in this debate are:

  • Don Showalter (who has been USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development coach director for close to 10 years)
  • Manuel Peña (basketball coach with ACB experience in clubs such as Basket Zaragoza and Gran Canaria )
  • Jorge Sanz (Spanish coach with over 10 years of trajectory in the NCAA, first in Florida Atlantic and then in Gonzaga)
  • Nick Booker (NCAA Assistant Coach)
  • Carlos Frade (an expert in players’ development that has been part of clubs as Valencia Basket, Gran Canaria or Alba Berlin in youth basketball, ACB, BBL and Euroleague)
  • Herman Mandole (with experience in Japan, Italy and Argentina. In the National Team of Argentina he has occupied different roles in both the Youth and Senior levels)
  • Sergio Lara (PhD in Positive Youth Development in Sport)
  • Matías Camino (who has made an impact in the Dannish basketball making FOG Naestved one of the biggest youth programs in the country)
  • Óscar Yebra (with huge experience as a player and as a coach, specially in China)
  • Pedro García (after being part of clubs such as Picken Claret or Unicaja in Spain, he has been in the NCAA since 2021)
